What Tools Do You Need for DIY Projects?

DIY Beginner Essentials & Power Tools (Budget Friendly)::

If you’re just starting out, a cordless drill is a must—it’s so easy to use and perfect for assembling furniture, hanging shelves, or small home projects. A Miter Saw is another great beginner-friendly tool for making quick cuts in wood. But even having just the basics, like a hammer, screwdrivers, and an adjustable wrench, can help with everyday fixes. Having the right tools from the start makes DIY projects so much easier!

Here’s a basic tool kit for DIY beginners with essential and secondary items.

Safety Gear:

Safety should always come first! I always make sure to wear the right protective gear when working on home projects. Here are my must-haves:

Taking these small precautions makes DIY projects safer and more comfortable!

Easy DIY Tool Storage:

What is the Best Saw for a Beginner DIY?

For beginner DIY projects,  miter saw is the most used and the best one, as almost every project needs it to make quick straight cuts in wood. I sometimes use a circular saw for longer plywood sheets, but a miter saw is definitely my go-to for most DIY projects!

I also love jigsaw, as it’s super easy to use and perfect for cutting curves, straight lines, or even intricate shapes. I love how lightweight and versatile it is—it makes projects like furniture, shelves, and crafts so much easier.

What Tools Should You Buy First?

When I first started doing DIY projects, I made sure to get the basics first! A hammer, a set of screwdrivers, and pliers were my go-to tools for small repairs. A tape measure and a level are also must-haves—I use them all the time when hanging pictures or installing shelves.

And honestly, a cordless drill was a game-changer for me! It makes assembling furniture and doing home projects so much easier. Starting with these essentials is the best way to be prepared for any little fix around the house!

What is Your Most Commonly Used Power Tool?

I’d have to say my cordless drill is the power tool I use the most! It’s so handy for assembling furniture, hanging shelves, and even small repairs around the house. I love how easy it is to use, and it saves so much time compared to using a manual screwdriver.

I also use my sander quite a bit for refinishing furniture and smoothing out surfaces before painting. But honestly, my drill is my go-to for almost every DIY project!

How Do I Learn How to Use These Tools?

When I first started using tools, I learned by following some influencers, practice, and a little trial and error!  YouTube is amazing for step-by-step guides on everything from using a drill to making precise cuts with a saw.

The best way to learn is to start with small projects—like hanging shelves or assembling furniture—and build confidence from there. If you know someone handy, asking for tips or practicing with them can help a lot too. Honestly, the more you use tools, the more comfortable you’ll get!

How Can I Learn More About DIY?

Look for DIY workshops, online courses, and YouTube tutorials to gain hands-on experience.

Honestly,  I learned from watching other influencers who are on the same journey. It gave me so much confidence which is priceless. If you want to see more of what I’ve done and get some tips, check out my Instagram—I share all my DIY projects there!

With this guide, you’ll have everything you need to confidently start your DIY journey—from basic repairs to ambitious woodworking projects! Trust me, if I can do it, so can you!
