Converting a garage into a gym is a project that is much needed for us. Especially because we are lazy to drive to a gym in other locations. By repurposing the garage, we were able to maximize space and create a personalized environment. If you are looking for garage conversion, this is the blog post for you.
This is a part of a bigger Garage Makeover, you can see how we built garage shelves with sliding doors.
Our garage space often turns into a dumping ground for scrap wood, old toys, and items we want to sell or donate.
To reclaim this open space or empty garage space, our first step is to clear all the clutter and find good quality storage boxes for these items.
Luckily, I found sturdy four-tier shelf and storage tote boxes that perfectly meet our storage space for gym space and fit within the available space, providing a great way to utilize extra space.
After assembling the garage shelf we made structural changes by separating and organizing all the random things scattered across the entire garage floor. This systematic approach clears up the mess and transforms our garage into a more orderly and usable area to create a personal gym atmosphere.
Positioning the shelf against the garage walls, I carved some fun colors in the space. Inspired by ideas from Pinterest. So I decided to create a DIY wall art arches.
I sketched the arches using a pushpin, thread, and pencil. With a paintbrush, I carefully outlined the circles and arches with paints.
Next, I used paint tape to paint the straight lines. Then I rolled inside the outlines to achieve a smooth finish, which was an ideal solution for adding color to the garage walls.
What’s a gym without a wall mirror? I worried about accidentally breaking it during workouts or while handling heavy tools and lumber.
To solve this, I researched safety measures and found a solution in bendable, shatterproof mirror sticker. I painted a large black rectangle to fit two rows of these mirrors. Then we applied the mirror stickers onto the black wall to achieve the appearance of a mirror, exploring different options for safety.
To create a perfect home gym atmosphere to life some personal touches are essential, so one good option is to create a motivational quote. For this, I used 12-inch stencils, and I painted my favorite saying.
Securing the stencils with painter’s tape ensured the letters stayed straight. Afterward, I filled them in with a roller for a clean finish, exploring different types of stencils for intense workouts and ensuring a good choice for adding personal touches to the garage gym area.
Before laying the foam floor mats, ensure that the floor is clean and dry. Use a vacuum to remove any dust. Then measure the dimension of the workout space where you want to lay the foam floor mats or rubber mats. This helps you to know how much material you will need to start the work. If you are using foam tiles, start by fixing them like a puzzle according to your floor plan. Once the foam flooring is laid down, inspect the entire surface to ensure all tiles or rolls are securely in place. Clean any visible seams or edges for a finished look.
Tip: If needed use a foam roller to fit around corners and edges.
To enhance the garage home gym, I planted a plant using garden soil to make the space more welcoming.
We completed our garage gym conversion over a single weekend! We found all the necessary items for this project at The Home Depot, which made everything much simpler. This conversion brightened up our garage, and we finished it just in time for fall.
